Ricardo Ma. P.G. Ongkiko
Ricardo Ma. P.G. Ongkiko heads the firm's Litigation Department. His practice areas include international and domestic arbitration, construction arbitration, mediation, civil and commercial litigation, corporation law, and contract law.
He has handled and tried a broad range of cases involving contract disputes, corporate restructuring and arbitration, debt recovery, infrastructure and engineering disputes, intra-corporate controversies, insurance cases, and tort. He has extensive experience in international and domestic arbitration dealing with commercial and construction disputes. Mr. Ongkiko has also provided corporate compliance services, having served as director and corporate secretary of several corporations.
Mr. Ongkiko worked briefly with Kinsella Boesch Fujikawa & Towle Law Offices (Los Angeles) as a foreign attorney in 1992 after his graduate studies, before returning to SyCipLaw.
He is a contributor to several publications, including the Philippine Chapters of Herbert Smith’s Guide to Dispute Resolution in Asia, Norton Rose’s Arbitration in Asia, and Kluwer Law International’s International Civil Procedure. He was co-author of the Philippine Chapters of Getting the Deal Through: Restructuring & Insolvency 2012 and Global White Page Section’s The Asia-Pacific Restructuring and Insolvency Guide 2006, among others.
Mr. Ongkiko is a member of The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (East Asia Branch) and was director (1997-1999) and secretary (1999-2001) of the Makati Chapter of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines. He is a trustee, vice president for development, and accredited arbitrator of the Philippine Institute of Arbitrators, and a trustee, assistant corporate secretary, and accredited arbitrator of the Philippine Dispute Resolution Center, Inc. He is a member of the Philippine Institute of Construction Arbitrators and Mediators, and an accredited arbitrator of the Construction Industry Arbitration Commission. He is also a Philippine Supreme Court-accredited mediator for the Philippine Court of Appeals.
He is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee.
