Joachim Alfonso P. Dompor
Joachim Alfonso P. Dompor is a member of the firm's litigation and arbitration department. He started his career at SyCipLaw in 2018 and recently rejoined the firm. Prior to his return to the firm, he worked as an in-house counsel for a major Philippine telco, working on several litigation matters and disputes for the company.
Mr. Dompor has represented clients in various arbitration proceedings (international and domestic, institutional and ad hoc), including a dispute between a power plant project owner and its supplier before the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), an ad hoc arbitration under the rules of the Philippine Dispute Resolution Center, Inc. (PDRCI) involving an unwinding of a merger agreement between major companies, and an ad hoc arbitration against an agency of the Philippine Government under the rules of the PDRCI. He has also acted as tribunal secretary for an ad hoc arbitration (under the rules of the PDRCI) between a major construction company and a Philippine government agency relative to a failed government infrastructure project.
Mr. Dompor handles a broad range of litigation cases involving commercial, civil, criminal, maritime, and administrative law before the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, trial courts, Department of Justice, prosecutor's offices, and regulatory and administrative agencies. His cases include, among others, defending an international automobile manufacturer in product liability and consumer protection cases, enforcement of maritime liens for a major ship repair company, proceedings before the National Privacy Commission, money claims filed before the Commission on Audit, white collar crimes, expropriation cases, and estate proceedings. He also works on securing interim relief from trial courts relative to anticipated or ongoing arbitration. In this connection, he has, among others, secured a successful arrest of a vessel through a writ of attachment issued under the Special Rules on Alternative Dispute Resolution preparatory to anticipated arbitration between the cargo owner and the vessel owner.
Mr. Dompor also has experience in employment law matters (including representing clients before labor tribunals and arbiters), general corporate services, commercial transactions, data privacy, fintech, and telecommunications, media, and technology law.
