SyCipLaw is the Philippine Tax Firm of the Year at the ITR Asia Tax Awards 2020

SyCip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan (“SyCipLaw’) has been recognized as Philippine Tax Firm of the Year in the International Tax Review (ITR) Asia Tax Awards 2020. SyCipLaw is one of the largest law firms in the Philippines and it is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.

The ITR is a publication that recognizes the remarkable achievements and developments by international tax professionals across the Asia-Pacific region. ITR has based the rankings on complexity, client impact, scale and innovation of the work completed by the relevant firm in the previous year.

SyCipLaw has also been shortlisted by the publication for the Philippine Tax Disputes Firm of the Year category.

SyCipLaw’s tax department is headed by Carina C. Laforteza, who is a partner and also a certified public accountant. It was previously headed by Rolando V. Medalla, Jr. until he became Of Counsel March of this year. SyCipLaw’s tax department consists of 21 lawyers, a number of whom are also certified public accountants. The department provides the entire range of tax services, from advising on and structuring the tax aspects of corporate transactions to administrative and judicial litigation in relation to tax refunds and defending clients against assessments for national and local taxes as well as customs duties.

The firm’s tax lawyers draw their work from the extensive corporate client base of the firm. They are also experts in other practice areas such as mergers and acquisitions, banking, finance and securities, litigation and dispute resolution, and intellectual property.
